The science behind the intergrated pad design is that if you are lying on and therefore squashing the insulation on the bottom of your sleeping it is providing a fraction of the insulation that the fully lofted areas are, i.e. the top of the bag. So why bother insulation the bottom of the bag at all..... instead provide a sleeve that fits a camping mat providing superior insulation plus eliminating the problem of sliding off your mat in the night.
