The science behind the intergrated pad design is that if you are lying in your sleeping bag you are squashing the insulation in the underside of the bag therefore it's providing a fraction of the insulation that the fully lofted areas are, i.e. the top of the bag. So why bother insulating the bottom of the bag at all..... instead provide a sleeve that fits a camping mat providing superior insulation plus eliminating the problem of sliding off your mat in the night.
